The book, "When the Heart Waits" by Sue Monk Kidd, inspired this piece. In the book she attempts, in an inspiring way, to address the spiritual mid-life crisis from a woman's point of view. She describes 'diapause' as that point of clinging before the caterpillar begins to make its cocoon. It epitomizes the leap of faith it takes to enter the cocoon and emerge, through time, a changed creature, to be transformed. This relates well to the time in mid-life when we decide if we remain closed or open to a new way of being.
All fabrics are created by the artist. They are dyed, painted, mono-printed, sprayed, and silk-screened. The fabrics are rayon, silk noil, cotton and linen. I intuitively curve-piece and quilt the artwork.28x 23
